Whitefish Bay High School has a new head girls basketball coach.
Dave Markson has been offered, and has accepted, the position as interim head coach for the 2013-14 season. Markson was a varsity assistant in the Whitefish Bay program from 2007 until 2012. He worked with the recently resigned Greg Capper.
"(He) has familiarity with the program and, additionally, most players have familiarity with him," Athletic Director John Gustavson said of Markson. "This should make for a smooth transition for all involved with the program."
Gustavson added that the head coach position will be reopened following the completion of the 2013-14 season.
"As the position first became available in late-July, the quantity of applicants was not great due to the timing of the opening," Gustavson said. "Bringing in a brand new coach with no familiarity with the program and no opportunity to utilize contact days with the team would have made for a difficult transition for both the players and the coach. By reopening the position next spring, it will allow the pool of candidates to be larger and, most importantly, will allow the new coach the opportunity to put their program in place in preparation for the 2014-15 season."
