1A purse and its contents, including credit cards, were taken from a car parked at Bayside Middle School, 601 E. Ellsworth Lane, between 2:15 and 2:50 p.m. Oct. 10. A window was broken for entry, causing about $200 damage. The victim said her purse was under a blanket in the back seat.
2Four men, ages 21, 22, 23, 25 and from Milwaukee, Mequon, Brown Deer and Florissant, Mo., were arrested for police obstruction after they all lied to police, including two who claimed the other two tried to rob them, in the 4300 block of West Brown Deer Road at 11:45 p.m. Sept. 18. The Milwaukee man was also arrested for possession of a drug pipe and the Missouri man for carrying a concealed weapon (a loaded 9-mm handgun) in his glove box. He had a conceal carry permit from another state and admitted he knew it wasn't valid in Wisconsin.
3A 30-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for trespassing and a parole violation at a relative's apartment in the 4500 block of West Dean Road at 9:35 a.m. Sept. 27. The man, who just got out of jail, told police he had no where else to go. He had been cited for trespassing here in November and December 2011.
4A smartphone valued at $749 was taken from a display at AT&T, 9078 N. Green Bay Road, about 3 p.m. Sept. 28. An employee reported that a man looked around the store for a while then disconnected the phone and fled, getting into a car with no license plates.
5The locks on two cars were damaged at Taher Inc., 4600 West Schroeder Drive, sometime over the weekend Sept. 28 to Oct. 1. Entry was not gained. Damage was $600.
6A 21-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, trespassing and the theft of a $45 pair of shoes at Kohl's, 9060 N. Port Washington Road, at 8:45 p.m. Oct. 2. The woman was seen putting the shoes into her purse and leaving the store. A glass pipe with residue was found in her purse along with the shoes.
7A 52-year-old woman and her 27-year-old nephew, both of Detroit, were arrested for identity theft and obstruction, and the woman also for fraud and theft, at Kohl's, 9060 N. Green Bay Road, at 5 p.m. Oct. 4. The woman used another woman's identity, including her Social Security number, to open a $1,000 line of credit at the store, which she then used to purchase two carts full of merchandise. As she and the man left, the identity theft was discovered. They were found a few blocks away sitting in their car focusing on the GPS unit. The woman denied the identity theft, saying, "I don't know what you're talking about." The man, who had a fake driver's license, admitted his friend made for him. The back area of the car, seats pulled down, was covered with stolen merchandise along with a number of Michigan driver's licenses, credit cards and receipts from other stores in and around the city.
8A 24-year-old Waukegan, Ill., man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing an officer, resisting/fugitive from justice, a warrant and party to the crime of theft, and two Racine women, 38 and 55, for theft of items valued at over $500 from Kohl's, 9060 N. Green Bay Road, at 2:45 p.m. Oct. 6. The two women left the store with the items and got into a car driven by the man. As police followed that car, both women jumped out and tried to flee. The man drove into River Hills, abandoned the car and tried to escape by walking into the Milwaukee River.
9Items valued at over $5,300 including two computers, two TVs, a video game system, games and a purse were taken from a car in the 4200 block of West Hawthorne Trace Road on Oct. 6 or 7. The owner said he had loaded the items into his car because he was moving. He also said the car was locked, although there was no sign of forced entry.
A Fox Point resident reported the theft of a sketchbook with watercolor paintings, valued at well over $10,000, sometime from summer 2011 to September 2012 and reported Oct. 8. The resident described the artist as well-known and the paintings were created in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The case is under investigation.
11A Fox Point man, age not listed, was arrested for criminal damage to property/vandalism after he kicked the side of a car and dented it at Seneca and Calumet roads at 9:40 a.m. Oct. 9. The driver said he stopped his car at a crosswalk to let the suspect pass with his dog. The driver then pulled forward and the man kicked his car. The driver also reported, about two weeks earlier, the same man had "flipped him off" after he waved to him.
12A purse valued at $180 and contents, including $40 cash ,was taken from a kitchen chair at a home in the 7300 block of North Seneca Road overnight Oct. 7-8. Entry was gained through an unsecured door.
13An attempted burglary was reported in the 7300 block of North Iroquois Road about 1 a.m. Oct. 8. Entry was not gained.
14A catalytic converter valued at $800 was taken from a car at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital, 202 Olive Street, on Oct. 1 and reported Oct. 5.
15A purse and contents valued at over $200, including three wallets and a checkbook, were taken from an unlocked car at Perkins, 5265 N. Port Washington Road, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Oct. 5. The purse was left in the backseat.
16A $200 wallet with $70 cash was taken from a purse left unattended in a cart at Pick 'n Save, 6969 N. Port Washington Road, about 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5. One card was used at Best Buy in Fox Point.
17An 18-year-old Milwaukee woman was charged as a felony fugitive from justice after police received a report of her sitting in a car in the 5400 block of North Dexter Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 5. The woman, who was wanted on an extraditable Texas warrant, said her car broke down and she was waiting for assistance.
18Two Milwaukee men, 19 and 20, were mailed citations for theft after fleeing with clothing valued at over $450 from Boston Store, 5701 N. Lydell Ave., at 9 p.m. Oct. 5. They set off an alarm as they left and were seen getting into a car driven by a woman later identified as a 20-year-old Milwaukee woman. She said she was at the mall getting her nails done when one of the men called her for a ride. She also said she hardly knew them but later admitted dating one of them for years. She also said she didn't know they had stolen anything.
19A man's wedding ring, valued at $870, was taken from a room at the Radisson Hotel, 7065 N. Port Washington Road, sometime Oct. 5 or 6 and reported Oct .7. The victim said he took it off when taking a shower and forgot to put it back on.
20A $3,000 diamond ring was taken from a nightstand drawer in the 7300 block of North Port Washington Road on Oct. 6 or 7. Another ring and a watch was left behind.
21A driver's license and two credit cards were taken from a woman's purse left unattended on a chair at Panera Bread, 5575 N. Port Washington Road, the afternoon of Oct. 7. There were attempts to use the credit cards, including over $1,000 at a CVS Pharmacy.
22A wild turkey was seen on Silver Spring Drive at Port Washington Road at 2:06 p.m. Oct. 7. An officer spoke with a "man in a gorilla suit," who said the turkey "flew west."
23A wallet was taken from an instructor's jacket that had been left on a chair in a classroom in Roger Bacon Hall, Cardinal Stritch University, 6801 N. Yates Road, the morning of Oct. 9. An attempt was made to use at least one credit card at a gas station.
24A resident reported being the victim of a scam after receiving a call from a male saying he was her grandson and in a Arlington, Texas, jail and needed $1,800 for bail. She sent the money and then received another call this time from an "attorney" saying she needed to send another $1,500 for legal fees. She sent that money also. Her grandson was fine.
25Two pairs of headphones, 24 lug nuts and a side view mirror valued at $1,300 were taken from a 2013 Chevy Suburban parked at Andrew Chevrolet, 1500 W. Silver Spring Drive, between Oct. 5 to Oct. 11.
No reportable incidents this week.
26A $150 purse, $40 cash and other items were taken during a burglary in the 4200 block of North Prospect Avenue overnight Oct. 4 or 5.
27An unlocked 2000 Toyota Camry, with purse and keys inside, was taken from the Shorewood Post Office, 1600 E. Capitol Drive, about 3 p.m. Oct. 5. The car's owner said she spoke to one or two males in the parking lot. Her car was recovered near 42nd Street and Burleigh Avenue in Milwaukee, and four males had been arrested.
28A tablet computer, a wallet and some keys, together valued at $745, were taken from the kitchen area of an residence in the 4400 block of North Prospect Avenue on Oct. 5 or 6.
29A 15-year-old boy, residence not listed, was a suspect in a theft after he asked to borrow another student's cellphone and then didn't return it at Atwater School, 2100 E. Capitol Drive, during the day Oct. 6.
30A 17-year-old Shorewood boy was arrested for possession of 1.5 grams of marijuana after he was stopped for riding a bicycle without lights in the 3900 block of North Downer Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Oct. 7. The drug was found in his jacket pocket.
31A 21-year-old Cedarburg man was arrested for drunken driving and speeding 70 mph in a 30-mph zone in the 1100 block of East Capitol Drive at 4:20 a.m. Oct. 7. Police followed the man, who finally stopped about two miles into Milwaukee.
32A 56-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for trespassing after police received a report of a suspicious person in the 4500 block of North Woodburn Street about noon Oct. 7. The man said he was looking for a friend but could not give a name.
33Police were called after a couple attempted to take a large propane grill from a church in the 4000 block of North Bartlett Avenue at 7 p.m. Oct. 7. The couple said they had purchased the grill from a Craigslist ad and had come to pick it up.
34A 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, former residents of Shorewood, are suspects for criminal damage to property in the 3800 block of North Prospect Avenue that occurred between 1:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 8. The couple is being investigated for breaking a basement window, entering the building and defecating on the floor.
35A 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested and charged for burglary involving a condo in the 4000 block of North Downer Avenue at 10:25 a.m. Oct. 8. A resident heard noises coming from the upper condo and called police. The man fled but was caught with a jar of change taken from the condo.
36Two tires valued at $125 were taken from a secured Trek bicycle at Shorewood High School, 1701 E. Capitol Drive, the morning of Oct. 11.
37A number of items were taken from a bedroom in the 4800 block of North Anita Avenue during the day Oct. 8. No information was available on what was taken or the value.
38A $1,500 metallic Trek Mountain Bike was taken from the municipal lot behind Winkie's, 629 E. Silver Spring Drive, about 3 p.m. Oct. 9.
39A man, age and residence not listed, was arrested for drunken driving after he was stopped for failing to dim his lights in the 5600 block of North Lake Drive at 2:15 a.m. Oct. 10. His blood alcohol content was 0.14.
40A female reported she was approached by a man driving a large blue minivan who said he thought she was pretty and asked for her name and phone number in the 200 block of East Day Avenue about 4:45 p.m. Oct. 11. He was described as a black male in his 30s with a balding head. There was writing on the side of the van but no information on that was given.
41A resident reported his car alarm went off and the dome light was on in the 5100 block of North Berkeley Boulevard at 4:30 a.m. Oct. 12. Nothing was reported taken.
42A citation was mailed to a Whitefish Bay woman for cat at large after her cat walked into a neighbor's home and hid under the neighbor's bed in the 5200 block of North Berkeley Boulevard at 3:25 p.m. Oct. 12. The woman had been previously warned.
43A man, age and residence not listed, was arrested for loitering/prowling and being a felon in possession of a firearm after a resident reported seeing an unattended black Toyota truck with the doors opened in an alley behind the 4600 block of North Morris Boulevard at 2 a.m. Oct. 13.
44A Yellow Cab driver reported he was the victim of a robbery in the 800 block of East Henry Clay Street about 3:50 a.m. Oct. 13. He had driven a man to that location when the man punched him in the face and then robbed him of about $200 and fled. The suspect was a white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and thin.
NORTH SHORE FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters responded to 109 calls, 80 emergency medical and 29 fire/rescue, Oct. 8 to Oct. 14.
Two stove fires were reported in Brown Deer. One was in the 4000 block of West Hawthorne Trace Road about 8:40 a.m. Oct. 8. The resident was cooking with oil but fell asleep and she awakened to find the oil on fire. The resident attempted to carry the pot to the bathroom but some burning oil spilled on the resident, on the carpet and tile floor causing damage. The stove and cabinets above it were also damaged. The resident was treated at the scene. The other fire was in the 8900 block of North Park Plaza Court about noon Oct. 8. The resident was cooking with oil, walked away for one minute and when she returned the oil was on fire, causing damage to the stove, range hood, cabinet and wall. The resident used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Two occupants were treated at a hospital. The amount of damage to each residence was not available.
