ELECTION UPDATE

Throughout the various local governments and school districts in the North Shore, 40 seats are up for grabs in the coming spring election. Also on the April 1 ballot in Shorewood and Whitefish Bay will be advisory referendums on the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 "Citizens United" ruling.

Under state election rules, potential candidates could begin circulating nomination papers and gathering signatures on Dec. 1. The required number of signatures varies based on the size of the municipality. All forms are available at local government and school district offices or online at the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board website: gab.wi.gov/elections-voting/candidates/local/non-partisan.

Candidates must submit their registration statement, declaration of candidacy, and nomination papers with signatures by 5 pm. Jan. 7 at their village hall, city hall, or school district main office. Incumbents must file their noncandidacy by 5 p.m. Dec. 27.

Below are the seats up for election and filings as of Tuesday:

BAYSIDE

Village Board — three seats, held by Village President Samuel Dickman, as well as trustees Robb DeGraff and William Hersch.

Trustees serve three-year terms and are paid $1,200 annually.

Village Hall is located at 9075 N. Regent Road.

Incumbent Village President Samuel Dickman and Incumbent Robb DeGraff submitted their declarations of candidacy.

Dan Rosenfeld, who serves on the Plan Commission, Community Development Authority, as well as the Finance and Administration Committee has announced his candidacy.

Update: Incumbent William Hersch has filed noncandidacy.

BROWN DEER

Village Board — two seats, held by trustees Terry Boschert and Andrea Weddle-Henning.

Trustees earn $3,600 annually and serve three-year terms.

Village Hall is located at 4800 W. Green Brook Drive.

Incumbent Terry Boschert has submitted his declaration of candidacy and campaign finance reports.

Update: Incumbent Andrea Weddle-Henning has filed noncandidacy forms.

School Board — two seats, held by President Gary Williams and board member Dennis Griffin. Both have announced their candidacy at recent board meetings but have not yet filed paperwork.

Board members serve three-year terms and earn $3,100 per year.

District offices are in the Administrative Services Center, 8200 N. 60th St.

Incumbent Dennis Griffin has filed his candidacy.

Update: Incumbent President Gary Williams has submitted his candidacy.

FOX POINT

Village Board — three seats, held by Village President Michael West as well as trustees William Warner and Christine Symchych.

Board members serve three-year terms and are not paid.

Village Hall is located at 7200 N. Santa Monica Blvd.

Incumbent William Warner has filed his noncandidacy.

Incumbent Village President Michael West and incumbent trustee Christine Symchych have filed complete paperwork and will be up for re-election.

GLENDALE

Common Council — three seats, held by 2nd District Alderman Daniel Sweeney, 4th District Alderman Richard Wiese, and 6th District Alderwoman JoAnn Shaw.

Aldermen serve two-year terms and are paid $2,700 per year.

City Hall is located at 5900 N. Milwaukee River Parkway.

Incumbent 4th District Alderman Richard Wiese has filed his candidacy papers.

MEQUON

Common Council — three seats, held by 2nd District Alderman and Council President Ken Zganjar, 3rd District Alderman Dale Mayr, and 5th District Alderman Mark Seider.

Aldermen serve three-year terms and earn $4,800 annually.

City Hall is located at 11333 N. Cedarburg Road.

Incumbent 2nd District Alderman and Council President Ken Zganjar has filed his noncandidacy. Fifth District resident Mark Gierl has filed his candidacy.

Former Alderman Bob Ashmore has filed his candidacy for the 2nd District post.

MEQUON-THIENSVILLE

School Board — two seats, held by President Suzette Urbashich and member James Liska.

Board members serve three-year terms and are unpaid.

District offices are located at 5000 W. Mequon Road.

Paul Buzzell, 11556 N. Creekside Court, has submitted his declaration of candidacy and campaign registration form.

Incumbent President Suzette Urbashich and incumbent board member James Liska have filed their noncandidacy. Wendy Francour, 2615 W. Ranch Road, and Sid Terry, 11648 N. Granville Road, have filed their candidacy papers.

RIVER HILLS

Village Board — three seats, held by President Bob Brunner, as well as trustees Wendy Walcott and Bill Walker.

Board members serve three-year, unpaid terms.

Village Hall is located at 7650 N. Pheasant Lane.

Kurt Glaisner, 945 W. Calumet Road, has submitted all paperwork and is in the running for trustee.

Update: Incumbent Bill Walker has filed his candidacy.

NICOLET UNIFIED

Fox Point-Bayside School Board — three seats, held by President Alice Lawton as well as members Tim Melchert and David Smulyan, who was appointed to an interim term in June after former board President Debbie Friberg resigned.

Board members serve three-year terms and are not paid.

District offices are located at Stormonth Elementary, 7300 N. Lombardy Road.

Update: School Board President Alice Lawton has filed her notification of noncandidacy. Incumbent Tim Melchert has filed a notification of noncandidacy. Incumbent David Smulyan has filed a declaration of candidacy.

Glendale-River Hills

School Board — one seat, held by board member Bryan Kennedy.

Board members serve three-year terms and are paid $540 annually.

District offices are located at Glen Hills Middle School, 2600 W. Mill Road.

Incumbent Bryan Kennedy has filed his candidacy.

Maple Dale-Indian Hill School Board — two seats, held by President Mark Goldstein and member Robert Ricigliano.

Board members serve three-year terms and are unpaid.

District offices are located at Maple Dale School, 8337 N. Port Washington Road.

Incumbent Rob Ricigliano has filed his noncandidacy.

Incumbent President Mark Goldstein has filed his noncandidacy.

Nicolet School Board — two seats, held by board members Morton Grodsky and Joseph Kasle.

Board members serve three-year terms and earn $1,000 annually.

Incumbent Morton Grodsky has filed his candidacy.

SHOREWOOD

Village Board — two seats, held by trustees Michael Maher and Ann McKaig, who was appointed to an interim term in July after board member Don Ford resigned.

Board members serve three-year terms and make $1,000 annually.

Village Hall is located at 3930 N. Murray Ave.

Incumbents Michael Maher and Ann McKaig have filed their candidacy.

School Board — two seats, held by board members Ruth Treisman and Paru Shah, who was appointed and later elected to an interim term in the spring to fill a vacancy left by former board member Michael Mishlove.

Board members serve three-year terms and are paid $1,000 annually.

District offices are located at Shorewood High School, 1701 E. Capitol Drive.

Incumbent Ruth Triesman has filed her candidacy papers.

Incumbent Paru Shah has filed her candidacy. Newcomer Gregg Davis has filed his candidacy.

THIENSVILLE

Village Board — two seats, held by trustees Ronald Heinritz and Rob Holyoke.

Board members serve three-year terms and earn $1,800 annually.

Village Hall is located at 250 Elm St.

Update: Incumbent Ronald Heinritz has filed complete paperwork. Incumbent Rob Holyoke has submitted his declaration of candidacy and registration.

WHITEFISH BAY

Village Board — three seats, held by Village President Julie Siegel as well as members Brenda Szumski and Tara Serebin, who was appointed to an interim term in June after trustee Lauri Rollings stepped down.

Board members serve three-year terms and are paid $600 annually.

The village president is paid $1,200 annually.

Village Hall is located at 5300 N. Marlborough Drive.

Incumbent Brenda Szumski has filed her noncandidacy. Incumbent Village President Julie Siegel and newcomer Anne O'Connor have both filed candidacy for the president position.

Incumbent Tara Serebin has filed her candidacy. William Demet, a 2011 write-in candidate, has filed his campaign registration but has not yet filed his declaration of candidacy.

School Board — two seats, held by board members Marie Greco and James Phillips.

Board member serve three-year terms and earn $1,200 annually.

District office are located at Whitefish Bay High School, 1200 E. Fairmount Ave.

Incumbents Marie Greco and James Phillips have filed their noncandidacy.

Update: Jennifer Dragseth has filed a declaration of candidacy.
