Trustees want Klode Park bluff studied
Whitefish Bay — Although Village Engineer Dan Naze assured the Village Board that the Klode Park bluff is stable, trustees Jim Roemer and Julie Siegel encouraged the village to do a survey to determine how much the "toe" at the bottom of the bluff is deteriorating.
"It's a treasure we need to keep up," Siegel said.
Roemer said the village should know the condition of the bluff as it develops its 2010 budget, in case it would need to spend money on the bluff.
Naze and Trustee Tom Fehring recently checked the park and the bluff after issues were raised about wet spots.
"There are a couple of springs that have opened up and made areas quite wet," Fehring said. He talked with the engineer who did the bluff plan in the late 1980s. "He had no concerns with that and said landscaping could be altered to deal with it."
At the engineer's suggestion, Naze said he would check drain tiles along the sidewalk and at the outfalls to make sure they are not clogged.
Shorewood recently hired Giles Engineering Associates to do four soil borings to determine why the northern portion of Atwater bluff is slumping.
