Board awards road work contract
Low bidder Graham and Associates of Waterford received the $719,140 contract to replace a water main and storm sewer and reconstruct one traffic lane of Cumberland Boulevard in Whitefish Bay.
The Village Board on May 4 awarded the contract. The Graham bid was lowest of eight bids that were as high as $912,175.
Daniel Naze, director of public works, said Graham received a clean bill of health from the company the village hired to check contractors' references and finances.
At a May 4 public hearing, resident Charlene Van Orsdal questioned why the upcoming Cumberland work was not completed two years ago with a sanitary sewer project.
Naze, who has been with the village for a few months, suggested the projects could have been split due to finances.
The Cumberland work will be from Hampton to Oakland avenues, but will not include the Cumberland/Hampton intersection reconstruction project. That work will be done under a separate contract.
The asphalt to be used on the one lane of traffic being reconstructed will match the asphalt laid down seven years ago on the other side of the street, Naze said.
Although a starting time must be obtained from the contractor, the project is to be finished in mid-September, he said.
