The upcoming presidential election is important for many reasons. Framing in proper context what is so important is difficult. In your gut you know it is important.
Please take a look at the list of announced and presumed candidates for President of the United States in 2016. Is there anything that jumps out at you? If not, please-please-please listen to the candidates talk and present their opinions. Try also to remember where their major financial support comes from. Most importantly, though, rate each one's aptitude next to someone in the public eye whom you consider intelligent. Now go to the list of candidates. Are these intelligent people running for President of the United States?: Donald Trump? Scott Walker? Lindsay Graham? Chris Christie? Ted Cruz? Sarah Palin? ...well, you get the idea. I simply cannot bring myself to making that disgusting list. What in the world is happening when the leading nation in the world can only put forth leadership candidates at this level?
Around much of the world today we learn of horrible terrorist acts. They are often brutal, savage, cruel, unrelenting, and sometimes led by groups and individuals who identify themselves as Moslems. Whether Shiite, Sunni, or a smaller sect or off-shoot of Islam, their identity has brought a picture of the Moslem faith that is horrific. Certainly I do not support, excuse, or condone these terrorist activities. But those of us in the Christian world might look to our own history to gain some insight into how religion can be distorted, forged, and too easily identified by simply calling oneself by a certain religious label.
Oh, how comfortable Governor Scott Walker has been cutting money for schools from elementary to college. Oh, how comfortable Governor Scott Walker has been lecturing poor people how and what to eat. Oh, how comfortable Scott Walker has been choosing people for his staff who end up serving time in prison for illegal activities serving him. Oh, how comfortable Governor Scott Walker has been lying about how much extra money there would be in his state budget [now proven to be a disaster]. Oh, how comfortable Scott Walker has been giving tax breaks to the wealthiest in the State. Oh, how comfortable Scott Walker was showing his right-wing loyalty at any cost to whom he thought was a Koch brother. Oh, how comfortable Governor Scott Walker has been doing everything he could to prevent the citizens of Wisconsin from knowing what was revealed about him in the John Doe proceedings.
