TRUTH STRANGER THAN FICTION
Belatedly, I just watched the movie "Syriana." It is somewhat based on a true story. Even though I know the subject matter very thoroughly, and have been to many of the settings in the film, I found it awkward because it insisted on adding a Hollywood story line. Nevertheless, I applaud George Clooney and others for having the guts to put this forward. It reveals much of the collusion of big corporations [especially big oil], the federal government, the CIA, and certain leading politicians in the U.S. who manipulate our policies, including war, to make money for themselves and their friends. The movie is reviewed as: "A complex, intriguing narrative about oil, terrorism, money and power."
However there is a 100% true and historically factual story that is more to the point. And it happened at the highest levels of capitalism and the U.S. government. Most certainly, in this case, truth is indeed much stranger than fiction ...and much more frightening.
All of the following actually happened BEFORE 9-11...
Prescott Bush had close ties to the Saudi family and the leaders of Hitler's Germany. He used these contacts to hold positions in a German industry that persecuted Jews and used them as slave workers. He further used these connections to make a fortune by illegally getting Saudi oil past the embargo by the U.S. and its allies, and to the German war machine. Congressional documents show this clearly. Further information about all this is available on the internet in many, many sources. Simply go to a search engine and type in "Prescott Bush,trading with the enemy" or "bush.nazi" or "Saudi-bush" or similar references.
Prescott Bush continued his close alliance and business connections to the Saudis for the rest of his life. His son, George H.W. Bush, got involved throughout his life, and sat on Saudi oil boards, conferred with Saudi leaders, etc. As President of the U.S., George H.W. Bush protected Saudi Arabia from the threat of Saddam Hussein and invaded Iraq to show his Saudi loyalty, business interest, lifelong connections, etc. He protected the Saudi oil fields, and a case can be made that he protected the oil supply to the U.S. But it cannot be overlooked that this Bush had a specific and personal interest in doing so.
Much of George H.W. Bush's life has many interesting ties to historical events. Besides using the U.S. military to protect Saudi Arabia, he also used the C.I.A. connections he had for personal, political, and business reasons. He had been the head of the C.I.A. He was in Dallas as a CIA staffer on the day JFK was shot, as were many clandestine men who had been pardoned of crimes by Mr. Bush. An FBI report by J. Edgar Hoover, no great friend of the CIA, several days after the JFK assasination mentioned rather pointedly about these coincidences. Again, these are historical facts and can be substantiated by search engines. Discard the coincidences if you wish, it does not deter from the facts of the story. During all this time the Bush men fought for deregulating corporations. George H.W. Bush helped Reagan deregulate big corporations when he was vice-president. George H.W. Bush has been mainly overlooked when it comes to his influence of the CIA, the federal government, Saudi Arabia, war, etc.
Now we come to the most dishonorable and most blatant use of executive power to give favors to the military-industrial corporations, the oil industry, and Saudi Arabia, the mysterious and somewhat clouded election of George W. Bush to the White House. Before 9-11, George W. Bush met with British leaders to discuss the invasion of Iraq. In recent testimony, some of Tony Blair's staff were flabberghasted at the way Bush and Cheney were pushing for the invasion.
When 9-11 happened, it was a perfect storm to invade Iraq. It didn't take Bush-Cheney long to do so. And amazingly, the biggest spending of money in that invasion was to Halliburton, the company that Dick Cheney had headed as CEO immediately before being chosen as vice president. More amazing is that many of the agreements to buy billions and billions of dollars in services from Halliburton were done without even a contract. Competitors of Halliburton questioned this as loudly as they could, but to no avail. The ultimate invasion, lying to bring approval from Congress and the American people, etc., was accomplished ASAP. Little thought was given to what would happen AFTER the invasion, just as long as Halliburton and other friends got their payment for services. Almost from the beginning Halliburton was criticized with not itemizing billions in expenses. The federal budget went into a fiscal tailspin for this unnecessary war. Halliburton fluorished. Soon the budget shortfall was in the trillions. And the Pentagon, the CIA, the White House, etc. were in collusion. The American military-industrial empire never had it so good.
The war in the Middle East was prolonged because when Osama bin Laden was trapped at Borah Borah, strangely the American military was ordered not to go after him. More hundreds of billions would be paid to the corporate friends of Bush and Cheney in the years following.
Bush's long family connection to the Saudis was never more glaringly shown as on 9-11 when all American planes were grounded for all Americans ...except one group: Saudis. Quickly, Saudis in the U.S. hopped on jets and got out of the U.S., by permission and order of President Bush. Absolutely amazing. George H.W. Bush remained on Saudi oil boards during all this. Absolutely amazing.
Of course this blog will be chastised as being political. What I have written here is not political, it is history, fact, as it actually happened. Label it or me as you will, but we cannot ignore history and fact. The only way we can avoid this sort of blatant profiteering of war, lives, budgets, taxes, favors, and general manipulation of the United States of America for selfish, personal reasons is to acknowledge that this happened. Otherwise it will happen again. And again.
Draw your own conclusions from this report of fact and history, but please do not deny it. Every American --and I mean EVERY American-- should clearly know about the connection of the Bush family and events in the Middle East. You may not want or like to believe it, but it DID happen.
