Yes, Oprah Winfrey has Milwaukee ties. Yes, Oprah is a billionaire. Yes, Oprah has a media empire. Yes, Oprah is beloved by millions of loyal fans around the world. Yes-yes-yes.
I guess you might say that she is not my cup of tea. Frankly, I observe her as being lots of substance and no reality. But she does nothing about as perfectly as anybody.
You want weight-loss gimmicks? Watch Oprah. She has been up and down so many times with "sure things" that she looks like an ad for Otis elevators.
You want a star with a mysterious persona? Watch Oprah. She won't hire you or keep you on her staff if you reveal ANYTHING about her to the public or the media...N-O-T-H-I-N-G.
You want marriage advice? Watch Oprah. She has proven that she knows a great deal about marriage and proves it by staying single.
You want a variety about history? Watch Oprah. Her personal history experienced change more than a newborn baby.
You want fashion? Watch Oprah. She will show you fashion for just about any woman of any weight at some point.
You want to know history? Watch Oprah. She has a new take on it on a regular basis.
Even if you were to write a book about her, she has major media so frightened of her that you would be hard-pressed to get interviews on network TV. Nobody, not the CIA, not the President, not heads of state, not movie stars, not executives of newspapers or other media, not anyone has the power that Oprah has to keep her private life private ...or else. The publishing business is dependent on her to spur book sales with her recommendations. She likes a movie story, so she helps finance it and, voila!, an Oscar.
Strong-arm tactics? For a woman! Perhaps. But for me, it is much ado about nothing ...except that she has limited free speech and impacted professional journalism negatively.
