IGNORING PERSONAL BIGOTRY
Oh, how we American "purists" love to heap piles of our "pure" criticism on Moslems. The "purist of the pure" here identify all Moslems as terrorists or terrorist sympathizers. What if I were to be so blatant as to tell you that Islam is a religion of Peace? Would you cringe? Would that be impossible for you to process? If you absolutely cannot accept the peace identification with the faith of Moslems, then it is an indication of how completely brainwashed you are, and perhaps more importantly, how easily you can fall prey to any prejudice, especially religious bigotry.
While the history of Mohammed and Islam are somewhat different and easily misunderstood by Jews and Christians, the majority of Moslems are people of peace. True, many have been led in a direction away from the true precepts of Islam, there is also ample evidence to support the reaction that many of that faith have in the way Christians and Jews have historically mistreated Moslem people. In truth, there has been a history of centuries of looking down at Moslem culture and people. We do this even as we ignore the major contribution of Moslem culture, and the flowering culture that was flourishing while Christian peoples were languishing in a dark period in European history. When the powerful nations of Europe evolved and became empires, they stomped heavily on Moslem people and raped them of much wealth and held them down in just about every way possible.
Even as we stepped on Moslems with our heavy Christian empire boots, we were always fighting among ourselves. The history of the world is replete with Christian wars. The brutality of Christians fighting Chrisitans and others is repulsive. In southeastern colonial America, Christians nailed fellow Christians of a different denomination upside down on crosses. The state of Maryland was formed so that Catholics would have a place to live in the strongly bigoted Protestant U.S. The list of Christian on Christian atrocities is common in American history. And the uncivilized treatment of Native Americans by Christians is clear and present in all of our U.S. history. Indeed, the very existence of a wealthy American economy is built upon the stomping of American Indians, Hispanic Americans [especially Mexicans], and wars of both moral and questionable natures...World War I, World War II, but also wars against American Indians, Vietnam, Iraq, the Spanish-American War, taking of land from Mexico, invading the tiny island of Greneda, supporting horrible dictators like Somoza and Batista, ad infinitum. Military-industrial wealth has been a big part of the economic "American dream." We have left in our path destruction and the killing of hundreds of thousands of our "enemies" [which includes the very people who were here when Europeans landed in America]. The bringing of slaves to America, and the treatment of their anscestors is a sad, brutal history of the United States. But we love to pound our chests in celebrating our own "heritage" and think of ourselves as pure and a leader of the "free world." That free world meant white, Europeans and their descendants in the United States. Proud? Do we truly and honestly recognize it in ourselves?
There are many faces of evil. The terrorism of people of a radical brand of Islam is certainly an obvious face of evil. But the face of evil marks much of our history in the U.S. To me, even a worse face of history is shown by people who ignore their own atrocities and hide behind the mask of two-faced religion. As we judge others, we Americans must first take a long, hard, honest look at ourselves and how we have terrorized people of many faiths and cultures ...and not always for noble reasons. Any patriotic American must first have a clear understanding of the history and actions of our nation, both noble and ignoble. It is far too easy to judge people who we view as "different" from ourselves.
I take my hat off to you, Mr. Schultz. Fortunately you always have facts and history on your side. But this blog post will have every religious and political bigot coming out of the woodwork because they have formed hateful, sweeping, judgments about Moslems and they aren't going to allow history and facts to stand in the way of expressing their prejudices. Instead of knowing the truth by studying history, they will enjoy expressing bigotry and prejudice as they always do. Hate is easy, knowledge and understanding require some effort. "Kill" is a favorite word among bigots. "Hate" is like an elixir to them. Knowledge must therefore be hated and killed off. They will write that you did not do enough in your blog to exhibit hate and kill toward all Moslems, and we have to live with these hate-filled killers...the military industrial complex depends on them.
The best blog anywhere! It confronts people to do what they increasingly do not want to do: think! People want everything laid out for them in a format that plays into their prejudices and ignorant bigotry. Instead of the shouting, it has intellect, facts, and historical information.
If you think Moslems have the wrong idea about Christians, just ponder what they must think of America when they hear the likes of Limbaugh, Beck, Pat Robertson, Hannity, Palin, Murdoch, etc. America presented by these people is indeed an America that is bigoted, backward, ignorant, warlike, hateful, angry, regimented, goose-stepping, and worship greed-capitalism. And we criticize Moslems!?!
Lester, I think you should start writing history books. You would fit right in with all the rest of the folks who do as they concentrate on all the evil the U.S. has done over history. Texas and North Carolina already have a head start as they are writing books now that start with American History at 1888. Yes, America has its evils as do most countries, but the Muslims who have hijacked their peaceful, yes peaceful religion are making it tough on them and it will get tougher. The peaceful Muslims had best step forward more than they do. Frank, I'm sure you don't fear Beck, Limbaugh and the rest as you would a radical Muslim who has your family. Right? I have read many Muslim books written by Muslims and their experience is far from peaceful. I'll take their word over yours. I would hope that a man like Lester who has made major gains economically and educationally via the American way would lay off the America bashing which he has been doing for 5 years. It gets pretty old. And when that industrial/military complex no longer exists, what will you America haters do to protect your butt. You guys are absolutely amazing. Patriots? yes! lacking knowledge? yes! My only hope is that Americans all come to their senses, as they have of late, and view the present as dangerous times and we will continue to fight for our freedom. If not, the Last Best Hope of America will be forever threatened. Frank, your constant use of bigotry, hatred etc is becoming of you but totally disgusting. I'm still waiting for you or Tom to debunk anything I have said in the past. You can't and you know it. Your continuation of belittling me or anyone who disagrees with you shows your true colors. Ignorance is bliss in your world and it is dangerous.
Gordy, in your limited world, the U.S. is always correct, and anyone who questions it is doomed to your rants forever. You think you are a patriot when you overlook the glaring faults of America. Wake up! This is not a political issue, it is a reminder that history will repeat itself if we deny it. And get over this silly, juvenile rant about criticizing you. You DID write against the U.S. govt. support of the Yemeni govt., thus FOR the terrorists. You DID OK Bush's refusal to give adequate support to veterans items in the budget. You DID criticize Obama before he took office and long before he had any impact on what is happening today...if that isn't a bigoted response, you have a different take on bigotry than I have...and you continue it. All we ask is that people scroll back and read what you wrote, it is frightening. Now re this blog [which is what comments here are for]...
Another excellent blog, Mr. Schultz. You always hit on things that are not reported in the media and this seems to get the rats out of the woodwork. At least they are reading something with a historical and factual basis.
Once again Tom, you distort what is said. Did I say the U.S. was never wrong? NO! As far as the rest of the examples you gave, you couldn't be farther from the truth of what I wrote. You may as well forget about trying to dismantle what I say because it isn't and won't work. As for Mr. O, I said I hope he succeeds but his actions thus far are a disaster. When you write these things I truly believe you are dyslexic. NOTHING I have ever written is unAmerican. It only appears that way because you can't accept the truth. Save your illiterate comments and get with the program of getting this country back on track. You and your liberal friends have only 10 months to do it, after that, leave it up to the grown up guys to get us out of this mess and send the unqualified back home to sulk. I suspect you have a government job, one of the 10,000 created per month. And 19% of those make over $100,000 a year. Good work if you can get it. Work? I surely hope that the letter written by an Austrian woman comes to your screen. That pretty much says it all as to what happened to them in the 30's and what is happening to us in the 2010's. Just Google Kitty Werthmann, who now lives in South Dakota. She lived it in 1938 and is equated it to 2010 and America. Hers was an Austrian and German experience of slow decline. Her letter is an eye opener. Something you most certainly need. Just trying to help those in need.

As for the Austrian woman, I have said for a long time that the U.S. has always been on the brink of a fascist government, controlled by the military-industrial complex. Just as Hitler and Mussolini were helped into power by the likes of Ford, duPont, Chase Manhattan, etc., there is always this possibility lurking. And now the big American corporations have set us up for this total take-over. If you don't think this economic disaster has been planned, then you do not know either history or current events. Yes, wake up and take back the U.S. government before you are giving a Heil Hitler type devotion to a military industrial fascist American government.
How silly this all seems in responding to Gordy. One must begin at such an elementary point. Look, Gordon, with all due respect, you read Mr. Schultz's blog, loaded with historical and factual information, presented in an intelligent format, and you come up with some letter that was written by a Moslem or an Austrian woman and think that is the equal. You have no idea of scholarship, insight, study, the wide scope of information, etc. presented by Mr. Schultz. All you seem to know is some little speck of info, often garnered from the likes of anti-intellectuals like Beck, Limbaugh, Washington Times, Murdoch, etc. Do you realize how ignorant you look this way? Do you have any inkling of your lack of knowledge and understanding? Are you THAT dense?
Mr. Schultz has been giving speeches throughout Europe and North America for decades, been interviewed in the national media, written extensively nationwide, and you judge him on the brief glimpse you have here. Some of us have been following his career for a long time. You simply have no clue about the wide storehouse of knowledge and insight he brings, but to you, judging people on your simple level is sufficient. How can one deal with your insolence and lack of knowledge? You think that all the people who are critical of your emptiness are liberals. You might be very surprised. Your misreading of Mr. Schultz gives evidence that you are in a pit and cannot see the world around you. It isn't all about Obama and politics, there is so much more to know, Gordon.
Ignore Gordy. My focus is on this excellent blog. Celebrate its glistening knowledge in the gloom of today's media. Intellect and insight are always a pleasure to experience.

These Muslim nuts have the worst double-standards in the world. I truly wish that just once we could act just as violent as them and bomb a few of their cities, starting with Mecca and that big black rock that Muhammad rubbed his evil butt on.
Read what Gordy and brachium write above. Brac wants to bomb and kill and degrade sites that are holy to over one billion people. He considers that his golden expression of American patriotism. And Gordy equally filled with himself raises questions except those expressed by himself that show him to be unAmerican until he finally realizes how stupid his statements are against governments the U.S. supports against terrorism, and his absolutely appalling support of keeping adequate support for U.S. veterans. Just read what these nuts write. And they like to put labels on people and try to forge them into something they are not. Your characterization of Mr. Schultz and others here is based solely on ignorant conjecture and is so far off the mark that your senses have failed you.

Keep writing certainly because I believe in free speech. But don't delude yourself into thinking what you have to say has any possible importance. You are like little kids who scream out for mommy, basing your thoughts and feelings totally on immature emotions.

Do you know anything at all about Mr. Schultz's background? To characterize him the way you did is so far off base as to be ridiculous. Get a grip on yourself. Mr. Schultz's life and work, from supporting himself at 8 years old, years in the most humble workplaces, getting himself through school without any help from anyone, etc. is not deserving of your stupid assumptions and generalizations. Look up this man's biography and I dare you to compare your own life's trek and accomplishments to what he has done with his life. It is truly shameful of you. You simply do not know what you're talking about.

You are all so congenial I am overjoyed. My opinion of anyone is just that. You may keep your comments flowing but I also will do the same. I don't really care about Lesters background. I only care about what he writes and that is what I find disgusting at times. Yes, he makes a lot of good points but it is always with an undertone of bashing either America, conservatives or religion. A terrorist group run by Ali Gilni! They have enclaves of terrorist camps in 22 states. A terrorist militia in our midst! Remember the warning we have all heard. "They are patient." Tom, how about this one. Did you know that in 1920 we had a depression as well? (Not the Great Depression of the 30's)! 11.9% unemployment and with NO government intervention except to cut taxes and cut government spending, by 1926 unemployment was at 1.8% IN PEACE TIME! Unlike what this administration is trying to do. Different times? Of course, but methodology of success ,which has been practiced time and time again over history. Just to point out a few REAL facts to our little boy, Gordy. Illegal immigration is down greatly, the number of border patrols have very little to do with the number of illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. Repeat: illegal immigation in the U.S. over the past year of so is down greatly. Oh, and quoting John Wayne is about as silly as quoting Adolf Hilter. Wayne said that the American Indians were selfishly trying to hold onto their land while "real" Americans were trying to settle it [from Europe!]. And one final comment, Gordy, you have done this many times in the past:
the last quote from John Wayne in your comments again misuses the contraction "you're" with "your."
