"We stand for the maintenance of private property...We shall protect free enterprise as the most expedient or rather the sole possible economic order." -Adolf Hitler
"I cannot admit that any man born ...has either the knowledge or authority to tell other men...what God's purposes are." -Judge Ben B. Lindsey
"The tendency to claim God as an ally for our partisan values and ends is...the source of all religious fanaticism." -Reinhold Niebuhr
Selective memory is often found in political commentary. Selective perspective also. What is the most despicable are those comments and commentators that assume a lofty, honest, religious perch and conduct their lives quite differently.
It is easy to remember Richard M. Nixon and his talking "down" to people he considered below him morally and ethically. He liked to lecture about others personal behavior, sexual practices, "liberal" morality, and so forth. He was the darling of those who hold such "better than thou" positions. And then came the Watergate scandal. And then came the gutteral, filthy language from the White House tapes.
Along came Ronald Reagan. Oh, how he and his wife liked to exhibit their pure life, lifestyle, and lofty observations about others' beliefs and behaviors. Of course much of the public was counted on to forget or not acknowledge Ronnie's indiscretions while married; his reputation as a guy who bedded some of the most attractive women in Hollywood (and elsewhere). Nevertheless, in the White House we received the pure messages from the guy who saw America as a movie set, with all the good guys and bad guys and the closing morality messages. Of course, not only was Ronnie a dispersed lover, he was in the hip-pocket of the biggest and most greedy corporations in America. And, oh, by the way, he also made secret armament trades with the horrible, extreme, Moslem nation of Iran. Overlook it.
The first President Bush became president after he called Ronald Reagan's financial program suggestions, "voodoo economics." Nevertheless he carried out the voodoo very well upon winning the election and following Reagan to the White House. His family's long standing personal and economic ties to Saudi Arabia were happily exhibited when Saddam stupidly invaded the Saudi neighbor, Kuwait, and threatened to invade the Arabian Peninsula next. Bush One gladly (and correctly) helped to throw Saddam out of Kuwait, and let it go at that. The Saudis were pleased with that result and Bush One saw no further exploits in Iraq, something that would have angered our NATO allies and others. Of course his son saw things differently, and his big military-industrial supporters needed more military income. Bush One remains to this day active in Saudi business enterprises...and receives handsome pay-offs.
Along came that horrible man, Bill Clinton. Right-wingers love to call him "trailer trash." Of course the right-wing sleaze has proven to make even the most immoral trailer resident blush. But when Clinton irresponsibly engaged in sexual activities in the White House with an intern, the right-wingers saw a marvelous opportunity to get even about Richard Nixon's impeachment and guilty charges. And they pounced on it. It was a comic opera. The man who led the impeachment in the House was adulterer Henry Hyde. Newt Gingrich, another adulterer, was lauded by his fellow Republicans. When things began to unravel in Newt's life and an expose was about to take place, he left the House. The right wing had trouble replacing Newt. The guy from Louisiana that they chose for the job turned out to be an adulterer himself. Shades of Monty Python!
In my previous blog I covered the sleaze factor with George W. Bush and his fawning over big corporations, tax cuts for the wealthy, attacking money spent on the poor and middle class, and desire to fill the coffers of the military-industrial giants. He created a boom for Halliburton [his vice president's former employer] and the likes of Blackwater and the usual corporate suspects who care little about the men and women sacrificed if it means big profits in wars.
That brings us to the right-wing ranting and shouting about ACORN. Gosh, they got tons of headlines about ACORN. Far worse were the actions of the right-wingers who engaged in uncovering ACORN and left in their right-wing wake some broken laws, felonious activities, and illegal break-ins. Eagerly supported by Republican and right-wing money, the likes of names like O'Keefe, Basel, Dai, Flanagan, Wetmore, et al broke in to try and get info on Democrat Senator Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana. This cabal of right-wingers have been planning and acting around the nation. Some are conservative college newspaper editors. Others search the limelight, regardless of the task or political crimes. As reported by Jim Rutenberg and Campbell Robertson in a news service story last week: "Those methods took root on college campuses in the latter half of George W. Bush's presidency, fostered by a group of men and women in their early 20s with a taste for showmanship..." Money was made available by old Republican families like the Coorses and Scaifes, and the conservative Leadership Institute's Balance in Media grant program.
So there you have a small taste of what is in store for us in the future. Using high-sounding and moral words, these charlatan right-wingers have slithered into American society in a big way. They do not want to promote anything for the common good, they want to destroy progressives ...period. And for the past 30 years or so the right-wing has stooped lower and lower to achieve their goals. Listen to Rush Limbaugh, and the other screamers on the air. They are not entertainers, they represent what is more and more being adopted as right-wing politics. We are a lesser nation for it.
With the Democrats now in charge we’re seeing the beginning of an age of darkness the likes of which the American people have never seen before. Although America will likely not explode all at once into chaos, it will likely rot into chaos. If Obama's $3.8 trillion budget is passed as it is America will soon look like a festering fruit abandoned in the muck and rain, once plentiful, ripe, and full of life, now unpalatable.
Lester, you want me to place nice while my country falls apart before my eyes? Well that’s not going to happen. As I’ve said before Democrats brought the “War Room” product to politics and if its war they want it’s war they will get. Remember, remember come 2010 November.
Shame on you Americans, shame on you for voting for this horribly evil man Barack Hussein Obama into power.
Oh, Oh, it happened again. The last 2 long comments that I wrote were deleted. I find it hard to believe that whoever runs this blog could be so obviously in the tank for the liberal agenda. Is free speech already dying in Wisconsin? Pathetic! Or is it that Lester owns the whole show? It sure would be fun to find out. I will summarize the LONG comment I wrote before. There is no doubt that politics from both right and left are laughable but the way Lester rips Bush and Reagan is indicative of his real agenda. This incompetent administration and Congress are driving this country into oblivion and just maybe that is what they want. We are now at $14 trillion deficit. This years budget alone is more than Bush had in 4 years with 2 wars, Katrina and 9/11. We are now at $75,000 per every man woman and child in the country. NOTHING can compare to this disaster coming. Lester, your history lessons are so indicative of your far left and progressive agenda. Your college teaching, travel and brainwashing of college students is exactly why we are in the present situation. Heaven help us if these people maintain control in 2010. There is hope as America has awakened. Lay off of Bush and Reagan because you know that is a loser in the present. We are watching close. Still waiting for your gut feeling on the direction of this incompetent Congress and administration.
Jester,
Your inability to absorb and retain real knowledge is at an all time low. It was only a couple of blogs ago that I educated you on the Clinton impeachment. Its apparent you need a refresher lesson. His impeachment had nothing to do with his unfortunate escapades with an intern. Remember (underline and highlight what follows), it was his lying under oath that got him in trouble with the House. Some would argue that his real punishment came from his domestic partner, the Sec. of State.
You hint at "small tastes for the future". May I suggest the New Black Panthers arriving at polling places is giving us all a taste of what's to come. Can you say, "The ends justify the means"?
Lester, would like to comment on your previous comments about Bush causing all the economic trouble. You are probably aware of the Glass/Steagall Act and that it was repealed by Bill Clinton. The act that allowed commercial banks and investment banks to enter each other business. Result: Economic banking disaster. It was not the Reagan de-regulation of banks. Even Bill Clinton was smart enough, in 1995, to say that I have learned my lesson and proceeded to move to the center and the rest is history, of course he then had a Republican Congress. And Rush is absolutely right when he says "If Obama fails, America wins."
Absolutely genius, Mr. Schultz. You have a marvelous knack of enticing the right-wing worms out of the woodwork and having them expose themselves so wonderfully. Keep it up! Your accurate historical accounting shows their wild conjectures for what they are: lies, distortions, ignorance, and mostly an inablility to absorb anything above the hamster IQ of Limbaugh, Beck, FOX, the Washington Times, and all the rest of the anti-intellectual goofs that now think they own all media. The best exhibited ability of these right-wingers is the keen sense of how to self-destruct. We have you to thank, Mr. Schultz, for your masterful job of baiting them and having them take the bait.
Just read what they write, folks, that says it all.
Oh Tom, how amazingly uninformed you are. Please comment on the lies and distortions you so elegantly claim. I will be waiting to see your response. I know there will be no response because you have no clue what was said. I would think you would get tired of just berating comments instead of actually debunking them and PROVING they are lies. I guess your joy is simply in being negative and avoiding truth at all cost. Are you and Kathy relatives of Lester? How can you be so blind as to what is really happening? Just respond to the truth of the comments with what is wrong, in your opinion. That would be appreciated by all who read this stuff. Go Saints!
sTomA,
Jester's accounting of the Bill Clinton sexual trainwreck is inaccurate (can you say perjury) and after he finds out you refered to his so called "excellent" blog as a fishing trip, he'll put you on blogger probation.
Yes people, read what we write. Only then will you get a perspective thats based on truth and common sense, not mental illness.
Forgotten Man, unfortunately, common sense, reason and truth is not part of Tom's minimal vocabulary. He thrives on hatred, bigotry, lies and distortions that he claims we all spew. REALLY sad but maybe there is still hope.
This is a wonderful blog. But the people who comment are sort of like nervous puppies who get onto their hind-legs and twist and turn as the master holds a piece of raw meat for them to perform. I don't think Mr. Schultz intends it, but with his blog he can count on the little circus act of the pathetic little puppies jumping in circles...no clue about what is happening, not a hint that they look pathetic doing it.
Do I sense a hint of jealousy Brent? I still keep waiting for any of you "libs" to dispute anything I say. You can't because you know it is true. We are simply people who are not going to allow Lester to expunge his ideology without being challenged. And I am still waiting for his "gut" feeling with reference to Mr. O and the direction he is taking the country. Would he possibly be afraid to reveal his true feelings? I suspect so.
All we ask, Gordy, is that people scroll back and actually READ the crap you write...the bigotry, unAmerican statements, lack of knowledge, critical nature of everyone who is not in your pig pen, etc.
Just read the stuff you spew out. Nothing more. Is that too much, Gordy, for people to actually READ what you write?
Or, as this blog suggests: look in the mirror.
All I am saying is that you support YOUR accusations of my comments being filled with hate, bigotry, unAmerican verse. You CAN"T do it and therefore just throw darts. THAT is complete disclosure of your lack of knowledge on ANY of the topics. Sorry, but your uncivilized comments just don't cut it with those who KNOW what is going on. Just keep reading and you just might learn something. Such as, FINALLY Mr. O has decided he wants to bring in the Republicans in the actual writing of a health bill. He has finally learned his lesson, as did Clinton. Now THAT is progress for the American people.

Just go back and read what Gordy and his aliases have written here. I shall not write a word of judgment here. Just read what he writes. Period.
Read what Gordy writes. That's all. Judge for yourself, instead of having to have him defend his stuff.
READ WHAT GORDY AND HIS ALIASES WRITE.
