Huckabee, a conservative with a heart?

Methinks Huckabee is more in keeping with the basics of the older Republican Party.  Huckabee gives evidence of being a thinking human being.  The others are simply warm and breathing.   Rudy G. cannot be nominated by that party.  And, like it or not, Mitt Romney is a Morman, and all those Christian Conservatives put their tolerant Christian compassion and understanding aside when it comes to politics.  The current Republican Party is about as much Christian as George W. Bush is.

Requirements for USA elections: wealth and/or $$$$$$$$$

A poor or middle class man has no chance to be elected President of the United States.  For local offices this might be possible.  But in both cases, alot of "selling out" of one's principles and values to monied groups is required.  That is why elections at the state and national levels are controlled by the likes of pharmaceutical, military-industrial, media conglomerates and other groups "approved" by the American Manufacturers Association or similar organizations.  In the case of contests between well-heeled candidates, it helps to have other power behind you like penecostals.  But even pentecostals and evangelicals are influenced by big money [see Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell].

The OBVIOUS solution would be to level the playing field by having public money pay for election marathons.

What do Zaboni and Huckabee have in common?

When we want to cut the grass, the vehicle we use is called a lawn mower or rider-mower.  If we want to plow snow, the vehicle we choose is a snow plow.  But when we want to shave or smooth the ice for a figure skating show or between periods of a hockey game, we don't use a vehicle called an ice-shaver or ice-smoother.  We use a Zamboni, named for the guy who developed the vehicle/machine that does that job.  We hold onto the name Zamboni because it is cute, almost Disney-like in the way it rolls off the tongue.  And it is used for pleasant shows like figure skating, or during the peaceful periods between the violent game of ice hockey.  It makes us feel good just to say it.

However when it comes to presidential candidates, we want good ole American names like Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Lincoln, Clinton, Carter, Bush, or even Kennedy.  It is a tough climb to the White House with a name like Kucinich or Giuliani or Duckakis.  Obama is not a truly 'murican enough sounding name, but when you couple it with Oprah, and have Oprah and Obama together, it has a commercial ring to it that plays to U.S. audiences.

own a gun/dress like a ***: insecurity & immaturity

There are many ways that adults lead youngsters astray.  This includes parents and their children.  People who have all the necessities of life and live in the comfort of safety like to lecture parents of poor children in trouble.  White conservatives like to tell parents of troubled youth that they should be more responsible in their parenting.  Yet, these same comfortable conservatives introduce guns into their lives and the lives of  their kids.  These same conservatives place a premium on material things and their kids either learn that dressing expensively is good or dressing like a materialistic *** is cool.

Those who love to judge minority parents might consider what race almost all serial killers are.  And they may also want to consider the race of the airhead celebrities who have everything [Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, etc.].

The Bible, "Christian" politicians, greed, war-mongers

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."  "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy."  "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God."  "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." -Matthew, chapter 5  [These are Biblical quotes directly attributed to Jesus Christ, who all of the presidential candidates, as well as our current president, proclaim they follow.  Do you see any evidence of this in the lives, policies, or greed of these politicians?]

"Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.  And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 19: 23-24

Even at Christmastime each American has responsibilities

Take a break from the boring and endless weather reports on TV.  Get your head and brain out of the sand, and pay attention to something other than the shallow contrivances of Fox and right-wing, fascist radio.  Demand that local and network TV news anchors have at least a rudimentary knowledge of history and current affairs.  Express your opinion to the media and politicians.  YOU, as an American, are a powerful person!

As with all power, it carries responsibilities.  And each citizen in the most powerful nation in history needs to be as enlightened as possible.  We are quickly losing our moral and ethical leadership in the world.  Our democracy is fading.

"Don't taze me, bro!"

Wrapped up in that hyped scream from a college student in Florida are many aspects of 2007 issues in the U.S.  Among this student's rants, here are examples: even college students now know how to create media "news" for one's self-important promotions...African-American language has penetrated white American youth and is thought of as cool...the Taser brings into view a multi-faceted group of issues (police brutality, free speech, violence, guns and gun control, etc.)...in the sweep of things today, allowing audience questions carries a bigger and bigger risk and free speech is curtailed...we no longer truly communicate about issues, we mostly do media shouting and/or connivance...the gap between generations is growing...what once would have been seen as blatant self-promotion is no longer viewed this way or thought of in bad taste...peace is now promoted via violent acts......and so this shouted comment became a big media event in America, and was a summary of much of what is transforming in the U.S.

Is all this a reminder that with all the increasing ways to communicate with each other, with all the new and expanded ways to get the news, without the content and knowledge of the back-story, we are growing more ignorant?
